Top Laptops and Ultrabooks with the Longest Battery Life

Updated January 17, 2019 By Emi

Whether it’s your first or umpteenth laptop, one of the most important things you’ll need to check for is its battery life.

The whole point of having one is to lug it around with you and be independent of sockets and cords, so you’ll want to have one that can give you a good run off a single charge.

More likely than not, you’ll be looking at gaming laptops, high end business laptops, student laptops, netbooks and 2-in-1 laptops.

With this in mind, here’s a list of laptops with the longest battery life for 2017.

Top Laptops with Best Battery Life

11 hours Acer Touchscreen Laptop R11 CB5-132T-C32M

The Acer Chromebook R11 Convertible is pretty much what it reads on the tin – a 2-in-1 laptop and tablet combo (hint: has a touchscreen) with an 11.6-inch screen. The tin also says you get 10 hours of runtime with it, though you can probably squeeze out another hours if you dim the brightness of said screen and don’t tax it heavily.

This Chromebook relies on being constantly connected to Google to be able to run any app (seeing as all of it is in the cloud). This, in turn, means it doesn’t have much in way of its own storage (a pitiful 32 GB), but it is fairly fast on boot up. Anyway, it has a great battery life and a very good price.

11 hours Samsung Notebook 9

The stylish Samsung Notebook 9 comes in two distinct flavors – 13.3-inch with core i5 CPU and 15-inch with core i7 CPU. Of course, the price tag will accommodate the difference. In ways of battery life, the max you can get with normal use is up to 10 hours, but with some measures (dimming the brightness being the most obvious), you can squeeze out another hour or so.

The laptop is pretty fast, thanks to its 256 GB Solid State Drive, though somewhat lacking in storage. Still, you can always upgrade it or use some sort of external storage device to supplement.

12 hours Apple MacBook Air Laptop

Hate it or love it, Mac is definitely one of the best choices for business laptops. It’s streamlined, user-friendly and well able to handle most things you throw at it (not games, though), let’s be honest. If you use it heavily, you can easily count with up to 7 hours or runtime, but if you use it sparingly, it should survive for half a day between charges.

The heart of this 13.3-inch pupster is an Intel dual core i5 CPU, with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128 GB SSD in support (translation = it’s fast).

12 hours CTL J5 Chromebook

As the astute readers may have already guessed, the CTL J5 Chromebook has to be connected to the web in order to function, which usually translates to – don’t count on a lot of space (32 GB). You can count, however, on it to be fast as Flash, thanks to its Intel N3060 Braswell CPU (peaks at 2.48 GHz). The fact that its 11.6-inch touchscreen flips full circle to make it a tablet is just a plus.

In regard to battery, the operative word here is “up to” 12 hours, and even then it depends on how you use it. Bottom line is that you can fully expect at least 10 hours of normal usage.

12 hours HP Pavilion 13-s128nr x360 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop

The convertible HP Pavilion comes with up to 12 hours of runtime on a single charge (the key word, again, is “up to”). If you use it heavily, you can feel free to halve the numbers.

The hood of this 13.3-inch bad boy conceals a real beast of a processor – Intel dual core i5-6200U, clocked at 2.3 GHz (peaks at 2.8 GHz), with 8 GB DDR3L SRAM in support. As far as storage goes, you get a mere 128 GB, but it’s SSD, so you’ll have no problems booting it up and/or launching apps. In words of 4chan, it gets things done.

13 hours ASUS Zen Book

The ASUS Zen Book is the best choice for folks who like to get their money’s worth out of every deal. You’ll get a virtually indestructible (Gorilla Glass) 13.3-inch laptop with solid aluminum case, plus a battery that can last you the whole day (provided you don’t spend the entire time playing games, of course).

It’s got one of the newer Intel processors – the i5-7200U Kaby Lake dual core, clocked at 2.5 GHz, with 8 GB DDR3 RAM in support. In ways of storage, there’s a 256 GB SSD – it’s not much, but it is fast, so it sort of balances out.

13 hours Dell Chromebook

The Dell Chromebook (CRM3210-1207BLK) is pretty much what you’d expect – a laptop dependent upon Google to operate. You can get it as non-touch and touch-screen, with 180-degree and 360-degree hinges, respectively. Either way you go, though, you’re getting an 11.6-inch laptop.

The major selling point of this puppy is its price-tag, which is more than affordable. Coupled with the impressive battery life – 13 hours nominally between charges, 7 hours if used continuously, this makes it quite appealing.

14 hours Acer Aspire One Cloudbook

The CPU of the Acer Aspire One Cloudbook is nothing to write home about (Intel Celeron, 2 GB DDR3L RAM), but it is supported by a 32 GB SSD, so it kind of evens out. On the flipside, you do get the Windows 10 preinstalled, plus a 1-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription, so it’s a good deal, overall.

In ways of battery, you can get up to 14 hours of nominal use on this 11-inch laptop, and half that if you ride it mercilessly (think Netflix and playing Candy Crush back-to-back for 7 hours).

17 hours Lenovo Thinkpad T460

Theoretically, yes, the Lenovo Thinkpad T460 can survive for up to 17 hours, provided you do virtually nothing with it and keep the brightness at the lowest level. In reality, however, it’s more than capable of giving you up to 10, even 12 hours of fair use, and about half that much if you choke it.

As far as the rest of the specs/features go, this puppy rocks a 14-inch LED lit display with 1366 x 768p resolution. The hood contains a decent quad core Intel i5-6200U chip, and comes in six distinct flavors in terms of storage and memory, the cheapest option being 500 GB HDD and 8 GB RAM.

17 hours Lenovo 20F6005HUS TS Thinkpad X260

Much like its T460 cousin, the Lenovo Thinkpad X260 has an impressive battery life. And just as with its cousin, this refers to the survival. If you want continuous video playback, think half that number.

The heart of this 12.5-inch laptop is an Intel i5 dual core chip, clocked at 2. GHz with 2.8 GHz bursts. You also get 8 GB of RAM, plus 500 GB of storage (HDD, not SSD).
