LG SJ9500 Mini Review
Thanks to its IPS LCD screen, the high-end LG SJ9500 4K TV is able to provide very wide viewing angles and very low input lag. Paired with the smart options of the WebOS platform, the TV generates a pleasant usage experience. On the downside, blacks are rather non-uniform but the above-average brightness somehow compensates.
The following calibration settings are adequate for any media type. To lower gaming input lack, only a few extra tweaks are needed.
LG SJ9500 best picture settings
Start the calibration process by turning off Energy Saving. Further on, select the Original Aspect Ratio in the Aspect Ratio Settings. Make sure you also set Just Scan to “On” to avoid changing the overscan setting on the media source.
Turn off Eye Comfort Mode and choose IFS Expert (Dark Room) picture mode.
Set Backlight to 22 and work from there depending on how light enters your room. Set Contrast to 100 and Brightness at 50.
Avoid over sharpening by switching H Sharpness and V Sharpness to 0. Leave Color at 50 and Tint to 0. These should be their default values.
Dynamic Contrast, Super Resolution, Edge Enhancer and Color Filter must be all turned off in the Expert Controls page.
Color Gamut must be set to Auto. Set Gamma to 2.2 and check whether the blacks become rather grayish. If that’s the case, just lower the Gamma to 1.9.
Go to Picture Options and switch off the two noise reduction features: Noise Reduction and MPEG noise Reduction. These are only suitable for low-resolution content. Avoid further automatic brightness change by turning off Motion Eye Care.
LG HDR picture settings
To benefit from HDR content, turn on HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color for each HDMI port through which you plan to stream HDR content. Once HDR content is detected, select the technicolor Expert Mode setting in the “HD Picture Mode” menu.
Since the Active HDR option is now supported, you may wish to activated in the Expert Control tab by setting Dynamic Contrast to Low. This setting won’t be available in Game “HDR Picture Mode” since it would increase input lag.
As expected, select “Game” in Picture Mode to obtain a better gaming experience on the LG SJ9500 TV.
