Updated August 27, 2020 By Emi Leave a Comment

Buying a new TV is a very exciting thing to do and we all love it when this time comes, however, there is a part of the process that can be a little daunting: the picture settings.

I want to help you make this process easier and that’s why I’ve compiled 3 picture settings from 3 trusted sources so you can try them and keep the one that works best for you. Without further adieu let’s get into those settings:

Expert Settings

Source #1: rtings

This is the one I recommend the most, a lot of people seem to have used these settings and had no issues with the image or the colors:

  • Backlight: if watching HDR videos leave it AUTO, if watching SDR videos adjust until you’re comfortable, 5 (Max) recommended.
  • Brightness: 0 (for brighter HDR videos increase to +5)
  • Contrast: 45
  • Sharpness: 0
  • Colour: 25
  • Tint (G/R): 0
  • Apply Picture Settings: All Sources
  • Digital Clean View: Off
  • Auto Motion Plus Settings: Off
  • Contrast Enhancer: Off (for brighter HDR videos select High)
  • Color Tone: Warm2
  • White Balance: The default values are recommended.
  • Gamma: 2.2

When it comes to TV and settings, this is a very popular forum, the recommendations below got quite a lot of positive comments and seem to work just fine, they suggest not to modify the White Balance because it can mess up the colors and the image of the TV.

  • Mode: Movie
  • Backlight: 25
  • Brightness: 3
  • Contracts: 50
  • Sharpness: 20
  • Colour: 25
  • Digital Clean: Auto
  • Motion Plus: Off
  • Local Dimming: Low
  • Contrast Enhancer: Off
  • HDR+: Off

Best Picture Settings for Playing Videogames

Samsung’s got the best recommendations to play videogames, I’ve tried them myself to play Fortnite and Call of Duty and I love them! Here are the most important settings when it comes to playing videogames on a series 8 Samsung TV of any size:

Samsung TV videogames options
  • Go to External Device Manager from the General menu and select Game Mode Settings, then set Game Mode: On
  • Activate Game Motion Plus
  • Backlight: Max
  • Color Tone: Warm 2
  • Local Dimming High
  • Adjust the Blur Reduction and Judder Reduction to whichever you prefer
  • Leave the White Balance alone 🙂

Hope these recommendations help you have a fantastic time with your new Samsung TV, if these tips didn’t work for you, here’s another post that will definitely help you with with a list of recommended settings for your TV.
